Jewellery Care

Jewellery Care - Ask for a demonstration from a professional jeweller if you are unsure.  Adelic Jewellery will not be held liable for any mistakes made.

Silver jewellery needs to be cleaned regularly. When exposed to perspiration and the atmosphere it may turn a darker colour. All Sterling Silver must contain at least 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals. It is the other metals, usually copper, that oxidise in the air resulting in the build-up of a tarnished layer on Sterling Silver jewellery.

A silver cloth is great for light tarnish on jewellery with a plain shiny finish. Do not use a silver cloth for jewellery with a textured finish or gold plating as you will wear the pattern or plating away. A wash with lukewarm soapy water and a very soft toothbrush works well with textured, plain finish or gold plating. Diamonds are safe to clean this way but do not soak emeralds, opals, lapis lazuli, cameos, coral, amber, malachite or any type of pearl. Always dry jewellery carefully and thoroughly before storing.

Remember that your jewellery should be  the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off when dressing. Take off before swimming or sunbathing.
